This course focus on the practical aspects of advanced nuclear medicine techniques
The main purposes of this course are:
1-To give the student an overall understanding of the basic principles and theories of multi-modalities imaging techniques such as SPECT/CT, and PET/CT. Aspects that will be discussed include: instrumentation, reconstruction algorithms, image acquisition, image processing, clinical applications, patient preparation, patient care, quality control, radiopharmaceuticals, and image artefacts
2-To provide the student with the principles regarding the dose calculation and the operational radiation protection aspects in Nuclear Medicine Department. Lab exercise and practical experience at off-site Nuclear Medicine Department
3-To presents the student with an introduction to the therapeutical applications in Nuclear Medicine. It includes a comprehensive examination of using many radioactive sources (e.g. 131I, 90Y,111In 32P,...) in treating many disease. Emphasis will be on the technical and clinical consideration, patient preparation, and radiation safety. Last but not least, most important aspect of quality management aspects in NM department will be discussed such as optimal design of NM facilities and purchasing the optimal systems.
