CHM 563, Biopolymer

The goal of this course is to expose students to biopolymer structure, synthesis (solution and solid phase synthesis, and characterization.  The course will focus on some of the key synthetic methods manufacturing technologies. Applications of biopolymer in society will be a theme throughout the course.
Course Objectives/Topics:
Biopolymer is a one semester course at King Saud University.  During the semester you will be introduced to some of the synthetic techniques for natural polymer that are central to biopolymer chemistry and the analytical tools used to characterize these materials.  These include:
Synthetic Techniques

• Polysaccharides
• Nucleic Acids
• Peptides and proteins
• Condensation polymerization 

Characterization Techniques:

• Dialysis
• Gel filteration
• Ion Exchange
• HPLC
• Electophoresis
• Spectroscopic Techniques

My objective for this course is to continue to develop your problem solving abilities and critical thinking skills while teaching these concepts in a way that will generate the same excitement and interest that I have for polymer chemistry
