Corrosion Engineering

Corrosion is an electrochemical process in which metals and alloys undergo transformation into predominantly oxides, hydroxides, and aqueous salts. Corrosion can be defined as the deterioration of a material usually a metal (can be an alloy) because of reaction with its environment. This deterioration results from an electrochemical or a chemical reaction between a metallic material and its environment. Corrosion is also a generic term that includes various forms of “diseases” that can cause damage to construction materials and failure in the components of the plant.
This course aims at teaching the forms of corrosion and the methods of corrosion protection.
