Promoting authenticity for a better academic preparation program: the case of the Arabic Language Institute
Alhaqbani, Ahmad . 2008
Abstract
This research aims to enhance the use of the notion of authenticity in the last semester of the intensive Arabic language program where the students are near to commencing university. It intends to provide an adequate proposal for developing the students‟ awareness of their disciplines through some activities that focus on promoting both the authenticity and the academic preparation. The proposal was based on a critical look at the context of the fourth semester which clearly shows the inappropriate use of authentic texts. Due to the context‟s constraints, offering some activities which serve the need for developing authenticity and academic preparedness seem to be an appropriate way. It includes the use of disciplinary portfolio, critical literacy, and the analysis of authentic texts
