SWE540 - Research Methods in Software Engineering

This course introduces graduate students to the philosophy of science, the scientific approach of conducting research in SE, and the different methods to conduct research.
The course aims to provide student with the necessary skills to produce written research work that follows the academic practice and of a publishable standards, and to critique and review research papers. In this course, students also learn how to formulate a research problem, research objectives, and research questions, and how to use scientific databases and search engines to identify relevant research articles to a specific question.
