DEH 213 - Oral Biology (Practical)

Credit Hours: 2
Topics covered in the didactic portion of the course include: Topographic description of the mouth, lips and tongue and their specialized mucosal covering. Classification and number of salivary glands. Saliva composition and function. Classification of oral mucosa and histological structures of buccal mucosa. During the practical portion of the course, students will microscopically observe: dental tissues and their investing and surrounding structures including the periodontal ligaments; the different types of salivary glands (sub-lingual, submandibular and parotid glands).
