The British Modern Novel: Eng. 451

 

 

 

Course Description: This course revolves around the study of the modern British novel. From the wide range of fictional output which English letters witnessed throughout the 20th Century, the course closely examines one important classic, namely E.M. Foster’s A Passage to India (1924). Students will also be exposed to different chapters and extracts from the mentioned novel as well a selection of critical texts that enhance our understanding of the novel in focus. Added to its literary and aesthetic pursuits, the course maps out the wider political, socio-economic, cultural, and intellectual contexts, which A Passage to India has either directly or indirectly address
