Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course students should be able to:
- Produce grammatically and structurally correct English translation of various new Arabic texts of different types
- Communicate the connotative meaning of the original text as well as its pragmatic effect.
- Differentiate between the subliminal or habitual processes of translation and the conscious and analytical procedures a translator uses when the former type fails.
- Learning how to deal with potential translation problems.
Communication Skills
The continuing development of good inter-personal communication skills is widely recognised as important for all students. This course specifically seeks to develop students’ abilities to work in groups and make a presentation.
Graduate Attributes of Translation II
- Knowledge
- An understanding of the underlying differences between the semantic and
linguistic elements of English and Arabic.
- Translating from Arabic into proper English (form and structure).
- Skills
- Students will be able to thoroughly practice translating from Arabic into English, thus opportunity to practice writing as well as applying required skills.
- They will be able to apply information from previous courses to differentiate between English and Arabic structures.
- They will also be able to differentiate between subliminal or habitual processes of translation and the conscious and analytical procedures a translator uses when the former type fails, thereby gradually moving to subliminal translation.
- Students will learn how to deal with potential translation problems.
