I am the program director of the Saudi Psychiatry board in KKUH & the head of the training committee in the psychiatry department in KSU.  

Furthermore, I am co-supervising  residents  who are  doing consultation liaison psychiatry rotations in KKUH.

Moreover,  I will give a lecture about eating disorder to R2 residents on April 20th 2011.

 


 

Objectives of Psychaitry Program Training

General Objectives:

1. To provide a professional and educational environment that will promote a high standard of psychiatric health care delivery.
2. To train and graduate competent and knowledgeable psychiatrists who will be capable of functioning independently at a professional level.
Specific Objectives:
At graduation, the candidate should possess the following capabilities and skills:
1. A sound knowledge in the principles of psychiatry.
2. Perform a through and appropriate examination of the patient’s physical and mental status and write a detailed and comprehensive case history.
3. Make a reasonable differential diagnosis and recognize common disorders in psychiatry and many of the rare disorders, especially those that are amenable to treatment.
4. Recognize emergency situations and manage them effectively.
5. Select and perform relevant investigations logically and conservatively and interpret their results correctly.
6. Manage common psychiatric problems and show knowledge of alternative management strategies.
7. Be skilled in the various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in psychiatry.
8. Communicate well with patients and their relatives, and with medical colleagues and allied health personnel.
9. Keep orderly and informative medical records.
10. Educate and update himself/herself in professional knowledge.
11. Convey by teaching and by example professional skills and knowledge to junior colleagues.
12. Advise colleagues from other specialties in problems related to psychiatry.
13. Possess high ethical and moral standards.
14. Be sensitive to patients’ pattern of illness and attitude and response to treatment.
15. Be active in professional research, regularly reviewing the latest professional literature, attending conferences and symposia and contributing to professional journals.
