FSN (420) Food Biotechnology

The objectives of this course are:

  • To know and understand  the principles of biotechnology
  • To be familiar with the  applications and benefits of biotechnology in a variety of fields including food science
  • To understand the definition of biotechnology and its wide applications especially in the area of food science.
  • To be familiar with the main tools of genetic engineering with reference to molecular replication, transcription and translation.
  • To know and understand the recombinant DNA technology and its application
  • To gain knowledge about the use of biotechnology on microbial stains preparation for food applications.
  • To be familiar with the food fermentation, bioreactors, genetically modified enzymes and microorganisms for the production of food additives.
  • To know and understand the application of biotechnological tools to solve problems related to food safety, quality, and authenticity.
