The instructor can be reached by email at kalwadeai@ksu.edu.sa or during the office hours.
Course Description:
During the course, the learners will be exposed to a different special procedures ( Bronchoscopy, Hyperbaric oxygen therapy, Intubation). Moreover, the learners will be introduced to non-invasive equipments that help for monitoring the Sao2 and CO2. This course will discuss equipments that improve oxygenation and ventilation and are used non-invasively ( CPAP &BIPAP), The learners will be also introduced to some diagnostic techniques to help assessing the patients. An overview of pharmacological principles will be presented in this course. Emphasis will be given to drugs influencing the respiratory system.
Course Hours:
This course will be conducted on Wednesday , 13:00 - 14:50.
Course Goals:
- · Learn the usage of the medical equipment that is used for diagnostic, monitoring and treatment.
- · Learn the proper use of different drugs that treat respiratory system
- · Learn and understand the non-invasive treatment modalities and how to operate them safely.
Course Requirements:
- 1. Read the assignments due for each class period.
- 2. Attend class.
- 3. Complete other required assignments.
- 4. Complete and pass block exams and final exam (60% or higher on each exam is required).
Exam Policy:
Students are expected to take the examinations at the scheduled date and time. If a student must miss an examination due to illness or an unforeseen problem, it is the student’s responsibility to contact the instructor in advance to make other arrangements.

Required Textbook:
- 1. Egan's Fundamentals of Respiratory Care, by. Wilkins, Stoller, Scanlan 9th Edition. C.V. Mosby, 2003.
- 2. Cairo and Pilbeam. Mosby’s Respiratory Care Equipment, 8th ed. St. Louis, Mosby, 2010.
Grading:
This course will be graded on percentage. The minimum passing score is 60%.
