Automated feature extraction from cylindrical parts based on STEP
Automated feature recognition in cylindrical parts is considered a critical parameter in the integration between CAD and CAPP. This integration represents a foundation for many industrial applications. Research work in area is not clear enough. Feature extraction from standard files such as STEP and IGES represents nowadays the main gate to solve many industrial problems. In this paper, the cylindrical parts classified into turning parts and after turning parts. This paper focuses only on turning parts. The turning parts in 3D model are saved as STEP AP 203 and then simplified into 2D drawing. A methodology based on rule based reasoning is used to extract the features from this 2D drawing. The proposed system succeeds to extract the data and features from turning parts. The proposed system constructs as a standalone program based on visual basic 2008 connected with EWDraw module.
