Introduction to the fundamental concepts of the biological characteristics of different microbial groups including; classification, morphology, ultra-structure, nutrition and growth conditions.

The course deals also with bacterial genetics and how it contributes to resistance to anti-microbial agents.

The host-parasite relationships are also discussed with respect to mechanisms of pathogenesis and immunity to infections.

 Finally, the general prosperities of viruses and classification are discussed with respect of replication and pathogenesis.
