نبذة تعريفية / مختصر السيرة الذاتية

Bioinorganic Chemistry is an amalgamation of inorganic chemistry and biology. Our work mainly focuses on the role of metals as therapeutic agents. Our research encompasses design, synthesis, characterization and mechanism of action of therapeutic transition metal complexes including organometallic arenes viz, Cu(I)/Ag(I)phosphines, organotin and ruthenium anticancer complexes. We characterize our compounds by adopting various spectroscopic techniques viz, Uv-Vis, FT-IR, 1H, 13 C, 31P and 119Sn NMR, single X-ray crystallography, ESI-MS, EPR in the case of paramagnetic metals like Cu(II), etc. and elemental analysis. We also study luminescent and magnetic properties of our synthetic compounds. Besides synthesis of metal-based drugs, research involves interactions studies with biological targets like Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), human serum albumin (HSA), enzymes like superoxide dismutase (SOD), topoisomerase Iα, and IIα associated with cancer. Computational chemistry is a highlight of our work; we study the possible interaction with the aid of docking studies with DNA, HSA, SOD, topo I and topo II. In recent times, we have also started some work for Anti-inflammatory, Analgesic, Anti-pyretic compounds for which we studied interaction with COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes also. Further in collaborations, we evaluate our compounds for preliminary anticancer studies, viz, MTT assay, SRB assay, ROS generation, Lipid peroxidation, GSH depletion Assays. Confocal microscopy for imaging and locating our compounds targets inside the cell. Flow cytometry for FACs analysis and gene expression. Recently, we have also started working on Microbial Biofilms, Quorum Sensing, Food packaging materials. FOCUS AREA: Inorganic Chemistry, Organometallic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry. .
