Mohamed El Bachir Menai is a Professor of Computer Science at King Saud University. He previously was an Associate Professor of Computer Science at King Saud University and at the University Center of Tebessa (Algeria). He also was a Research Scientist at LIASD Laboratory (Laboratoire d’Informatique Avancée de Saint-Denis) at the University of Paris 8 (France). As other University services, he is the coordinator of the Graduate Committee, Department of Computer Science (CCIS, KSU), since September 2009, and he was:

  • Vice Chairman of the Department of Computer Science (CCIS, KSU), Feb. 2010 - Dec. 2012.
  • Member of the ABET Committee, Department of Computer Science (CCIS, KSU), 2010-2012.
  • Member of the Graduate Programs Evaluation Committee, College of Computer and Information Sciences (KSU), 2012.
  • Member of the Faculty Recruitment Committee, College of Computer and Information Sciences (KSU), 2009-2010.
  • Vice Director of the University Center of Tebessa (Algeria), from Dec. 2005 to Aug. 2007.
  • Vice Director of the Institute of Science and Technology at the University Center of Tebessa (Algeria), from Oct. 2000 to June 2001.
  • Chairman of the Computer Science Department at the University Center of Tebessa (Algeria), from Sep. 1999 to Sep. 2000.

He also was the Founding Director of a business software company in Algeria (developing, testing, and customizing management system software), between 1992 and 1999.
He received:

  • The "Habilitation Universitaire" in Computer Science, a Post-Doctorate Degree, (Mentouri University of Constantine, Algeria), in 2007. Research work was conducted in the LIASD Laboratory (Laboratoire d’Informatique Avancée de Saint-Denis) at the University of Paris VIII (France).
  • The Ph.D. in Computer Science (Mentouri University of Constantine, Algeria -University of Paris VIII, France), in 2005. The research was conducted in the LIASD Laboratory (Laboratoire d’Informatique Avancée de Saint-Denis) at the University of Paris VIII (France). 
  • The "Magister" in Computer Science, a joint degree of the University of Annaba (Algeria) and the University of Glasgow (Scotland), in 1994.
  • The Engineer Degree in Computer Science (National Institute of Computer Science of Algiers, Algeria), five-year degree courses, in 1987.
  • Another M.Sc. degree in Education Science (University of Louis Pasteur of Strasbourg1, France), in 2004.

He taught several courses during over 25 years: Artificial Intelligence, Evolutionary Computation, Machine Learning, Designing Object-Oriented Systems, Compiler Construction, Mathematical Logic, Software Engineering, Numerical Analysis, Databases, Operating Systems, Systems Programming, Abstract Data Types, Data Structures, and Algorithms.

His research interests include efficient solving procedures to satisfiability problems in logic, natural language processing, nature-inspired metaheuristics and evolutionary computation, machine learning, and AI in medicine. He has authored several publications, including a best paper award (from the International Society of Applied Intelligence, 2003), and an invited paper (the IEEE International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Systems (AIS 2004), Divnomorskoye, Black Sea Coast, Russia, 2004).
