مختصر السيرة الذاتية
I graduated from College of pharmacy, King Saud University (KSU) in 1993 with a second class honour in pharmacy. I enjoyed studying pharmaceutical sciences, as they were giving me the insight into the importance of drugs in the treatment of ailments, the mechanism of how they work and how they can be develop. I was more interested in understanding the relationship between natural products and drugs development, such as morphine, derived from plant, and antibiotics, derived from microorganisms. Such experience prompted me to undertake postgraduate studies, which contributed to the development of my academic carrier, particularly in the area of pharmacognosy, study of drugs derived from natural sources.
After graduation in 1993, I joined the academic staff of the College of Pharmacy, as demonstrator, or teaching assistant, whereas, I was the first Saudi woman to join the academic staff in the Department of Pharmacognosy. After two years of working as a demonstrator, I decided to undertake postgraduate study to do Master Degree in pharmacognosy, the field that I have always fascinated with. In 1999, I obtained Master Degree and continued working in the same college, but as a lecturer. Being a lecturer gave me the opportunity to contribute and develop my teaching skills. I taught a number of practical courses, thereby such experience gave me the opportunity to be active in serving the community in Riyadh through setting up public lectures and workshop in mainly the impotence of medicinal plants in health.
I continued my postgraduate study and received a Ph.D. in pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutical sciences, King Saud University in June/2007. This followed by an academic promotion into assistant professor, and become a faculty member in the Department of Pharmacognosy, mainly in the areas of antibiotics. Within this discipline, I have participated in teaching of a number of courses and undertaken and develop my research skill. A gain the main focus in research has been on natural products and published many papers in this area.
In addition to the main tasks of being an academic, which involve both teaching and research, I decided to develop my academic skills, particularly in teaching and administration. In June 2008 I was appointed as Vice Dean of the College of Pharmacy, KSU for two years. Since 2010, I have been concentrated more on pharmacognosy research and teaching. As the complementary teaching has moved away from the traditional method, I found myself obliged to undertake the programme for the skill development.
