This book gives the detailed understanding about the basic concepts of capital flows which are one of the compenents of balance of payment accounts. The book broadly examines the trends, magnitude, composition (time profile of capital inflows), determinants and nature/ volatility of capital inflows, impact on economic growth and analyzes the effect of capital inflows on important macroeconomic variables as a consequence of economic reforms in india since 1991. The book is organised into seven chapters. The first chapter is introductory in nature which gives an idea about conceptual framework and issues of capital flows, importance of capital flows, and theories of capital inflows and spells out the scope and objectives of the study. the second chapter reviews some of the existing theoretical and empirical studies on capital inflows. The third chapter gives a time profile (trend and prospects) of cross boarder capital flows to developing and emerging economies. In fourth chapter, capital inflows in india have been discussedin a broad way. Fifth chapter brings out a detailed discussion on research designs, econometric modelling, tools of time series and methodologies, nature and sources of data used in the study. The sixth chapter examines empirically the objectives of the study using appropriate time series econometric tools such as co- integration, Granger- Causality test, Vector Auto Regressive (VAR) model, Impulse Response Function (IRF), Variance Decomposition method, etc. The last chapter includes summary, conclusions, suggestions and some policy implications for the future research as well as some limitations of the study.
