مستخلص المنشور:

More than half of cancer patients receive radiotherapy either for radical or palliative purposes. The increasing survival rates in cancer patients makes it important to pay attention to side-effects of the treatment. Modelling side effects of radiotherapy can potentially aid physicians in choosing the radiotherapy treatment modality that is most suitable for particular groups of patients, and to aid rival plan selection for a given patient. This work studies secondary malignancy induction in medulloblastoma treated by radiotherapy using 3D conformal x-ray (3DCRT) radiotherapy or actively scanned proton therapy. Malignant induction probability (MIP) and normal tissue complication probability (NTCP) are calculated in a voxel-by-voxel fashion using in-house developed code. The aim of the project is to compare the relative malignant induction probabilities of both treatment modalities using a number of different MIP models, to investigate the sensitivity of the models to variations in their input parameters and to identify which organ NTCPs are most sensitive to the choice of treatment modality.
