This platform is designed to hold dry skulls during research involving x-ray imaging of the skulls with cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and panoramic-cephalometric (pan-ceph) radiography devices. The dimensions of the different components of the stand are so designed to allow the platform to stand within the x-ray devices without interfering with the position or rotational path of the x-ray source or the detectors.
The platform is composed of wood which is a radiolucent material. It is composed of a skull table attached to a vertical extension arm which may be lowered or raised within a vertical hollow shaft. The upper surface of the table contains protuberances for stabilization of the skull. The shaft is supported by a heavy sturdy base to support the shaft and skull table to allow stable positioning of the platform within the radiography devices.
Use of this platform allows proper and stable positioning of dry skulls for imaging with pan-ceph or CBCT machines to produce images free of artifacts. It also maintains skull accessibility and prevents alteration of bone surfaces before, during, and after imaging
