Ahmed Abdelshafy Abdallah Abdelrahman

I got my BA in the education of the English language in 1995. Since then, I have been teaching English as a foreign language. Later, I had two diplomas in linguistics in 1997 and 1998 respectively. I studied sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics and discourse analysis – among other things. I got my MA in linguistics in 2007. My thesis was entitled: “Al-Jurjani’s Theory of naZm and Halliday’s Information Structure Theory: A Comparative Study.” As apparent from the title, I tackled how grammatical forms (both in English and Arabic) interfere with the structure of the sentence and, to a wider extent, discourse. As a pre-requisite for the MA degree I got a local score of 610 and passed an Arabic efficiency course. From June 2008 till June 2014, I worked as a language instructor at Riyadh Teachers’ College where I taught semantics, pragmatics, applied linguistics, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics and principles of text-linguistics and translation. I also taught skill wise courses at the college and at the community center attached to the college. Besides, I taught ESP and content-based courses at the community center. I was trained to design a website for students and I did. I was also trained to use a learning management system provided by BlackBoard and I did. I vigorously used technology in the classroom. Currently, I work at the translation center at King Saud University where I am the admin for the website, Twitter and Facebook of the Translation Center, and member of the quality control committee.
