Dr. Amanullah Fatehmulla

Dr. Amanullah Fatehmulla is a Professor of Physics in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at King Saud University, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He is a member of the renewable energy and environment research group (Thin Films and Solar Cells). He is a member of department council as well as laboratory affairs committee. He received his PhD from Osmania University, Hyderabad, India in 1992. His research interests include thin film technology, solar cells, TCO (gas sensors), metal induced crystallization (MIC) of amorphous silicon, renewable energy and environment, micro and nanostructured materials and nanoparticles. He has published over 50 research papers in International journals and conference proceedings. He has presented more than 25 research papers in International conferences and gave 7 invited talks. He has participated in several national and International conferences and workshops. He was a visiting faculty during summer 2001 & 2002 (two months each) and worked in the photovoltaic division of the HiDEC/Electrical engineering department, University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, AR 72701, USA. He has been Principal Investigator and co-Investigator for different scientific research projects. He is currently co-Investigator for two research projects. As a teaching faculty, he has taught various undergraduate and postgraduate courses. He has supervised several undergraduate and graduate students. Currently, one PhD and three M.Sc students are under his supervision. He is reviewer of several ISI journals and has been reviewing PhD and Master Thesis including scientific project proposals. He has been executing community services as selection committee member/ subject expert for post graduate teachers. His biographical record appeared for four consecutive times in “Who’s Who in the World” starting from 2011. He is a member of many scientific bodies.

INTERESTS:
● Fabrication and characterization (Electrical, Optical and Structural) of thin films.    
   Electronic devices and Solar cells. Schottky junctions, Metalization and ohmic contacts.
●  Stand Alone PV Systems (Solar Water Pumping, Low Power PV Refrigeration) 
●  Alloying, doping, crystal growth and thin films of II-VI  semiconducting compounds like CdS,CdTe, ZnTe, CdSe,                 CdSxSe1-x etc.and I-III-VI2 compounds like CuInS2,CuInSe2, CuInTe2 etc.
●  Si and GaAs material processing for solar cells and schottky  junctions.
 
●  Development of Spray and CBD techniques for thin films preparation.
 
●  Transparent conductors (metal oxide semiconductors) like SnO2, SnO2:F, InO, InO2:Sn, ZnO etc.their thin film                  preparation and characterization.
●   Metal induced crystallization of a-Si, a:Si:H.
     Post deposition processing by thermal annealing and laser
     annealing of semiconductors & devices.
●  Characterization of materials by X-ray diffraction (Rocking Curve, GIXRD, Reflectivity and Phase analysis by Powder         diffraction)  
●  Sythesis of Nanoparticles   and posssible applications in Renewable Energy and Environment

Title of the Ph.D  thesis:  “Preparation and characterization of fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO) and tin doped                                                                indium oxide      (ITO) thin films: Application to gas sensors and heat mirrors”.
 
 Title of the M.Phil.dissertation:“Studies in Solid State Physics - Preparation and some    properties of CdSxSe1-x films”.

Worked as Junior Research Fellow in a DST (Department of  Science &Technology, Govt. India) Project entitled “Investigations on Ternary Semiconductors with possible application as photovoltaic devices” for 1½ years (1984-1985) in department of physics IIT, Madras.
