 RESEARCH EXPERINCES AND INTERESTS

My research was to study cyanobacteria from microbiotic crusts of   North America in the Mojave Desert, San Bernadino County, California. All cyanobacteria isolates were examined using a high-resolution Olympus photomicroscope equipped with Nomarski DIC optics to study cellular features.  Sequence data for the 16S rRNA (small sub-unit ribosomal RNA) and the 16S-23 ITS (Internal Transcribed Spacer) were employed for potentially new species of selected strains of interest and phylogenetic conclusions drawn from analysis of these data. In future research, I will use both morphological and molecular technique to study cyanobacteria from different habitat utilizing various techniques including  the traditional morphological classification and the analysis of 16S rRNA,  as well as  the secondary structure of  its associated ITS.
