Dr. Abdelrahman El-Leathy is an associate professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department, the College of Engineering, King Saud University, Saudi Arabia. Dr. El-Leathy Ph.D. research work was done at the Aerospace Engineering Department, the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, U.S.A (1998-2002). Dr. El-Leathy had worked for two years (2002-2004) as a post-doctoral research associate in the Department of Aerospace Engineering, the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, U.S.A. Dr. El-Leathy had worked as a visiting assistant professor at School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, Oklahoma State University, U.S.A (2006-2007). Dr. El-Leathy had worked as a visiting assistant professor at School of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering, Sultan Qaboos University, Oman (2007-2008). From 2008 till now Dr. El-Leathy is working at King Saud University where his research area are on renewable energy and thermal storage system. He is KSU’s co- investigator in a SunShot award funded by the US Department of Energy. Dr. El-Leathy researches have resulted in 52 international journal and conferences papers. His work resulted in 1 patent application.

Research Activities:

Participated in the NASA Laminar Soot Point (LSP) program. Combustion study of the causes of soot formation and oxidation in laminar flames. A microgravity experiment that flew on 16 January-1 February 2003 on Space Shuttle Columbia (Flight STS-107). Currently, participate on high temperature solar gas turbine project- design of heliostat field and particle receiver, KSU national project.

 

 

Professional:

Holographic imaging, thermal flow analysis, heat engines, gas chromatography, SEM, TEM, HRTEM, sampling and various laser diagnostic techniques including scattering and extinction, laser velocimetry, atomic absorption method for radical species concentration and two line thermal emissions, solar energy measurements.
