MIS 419 gives you a solid foundation covering the challenges, concepts, and techniques dealing with management of knowledge in organizations.
By taking MIS 419, the Knowledge Management, student should have a good understanding of Knowledge Management and knowledge management Systems. Particularly this course covers the theoretical foundation for knowledge, knowledge management life cycle within enterprises, and the role played by number of factors including IT and corporate culture in KM initiatives.
Furthermore, Students will gain practical experience in involving in using number of IT technologies such as Wikis and techniques to perform the major KM activities such as knowledge capture, Knowledge creation and Knowledge sharing.
On completion of the course, students should be able to:
1. Understand the fundamental concepts in the study of knowledge and knowledge management.
2. Appreciate the role and use of knowledge in organizations and institutions, and the typical obstacles that KM aims to overcome.
3. Explain the core concepts, methods, techniques, and tools for support of knowledge management.
4. Examine case studies of knowledge management/sharing/systems and how they are implemented in the workplace.
5. Critically evaluate current trends in knowledge management.
6. Participate with other class mates, over IT platforms, in Knowledge capture, creation and sharing activities.
7. Follow and practice the SECI model to manage organizational Knowledge.
