يعمل الدكتور هشام سليمان اليوسف استاذ مساعد في قسم اللغة الإنجليزية وآدابها بكلية الآداب بجامعة الملك سعود. و حصل على شهادة الدكتوراه من جامعة أديليد بإستراليا، والماجستير من جامعة الملك سعود تخصص علم اللغة التطبيقي، و البكالوريوس من جامعة الإمام محمد بن سعود في اللغات والترجمة. وقد قام الدكتور هشام بنشر بعض البحوث في مجلات علمية محكمة وبعضها ضمن قاعدتي بيانات سكوبوس و آي إس آي. وتشمل اهتمامات الدكتور هشام التحليل النصي المتعدد الأشكال، وطرق بحث المعارف العلمية، و علم اللغة الوظيفي، آلخ. وقد قام الدكتور هشام اثناء مرحلة الدكتوراه بتقييم رسائل الماجستير وعمل كمراجع للبحوث في إحدى المجلات العلمية للفترة من فبراير 2012 إلى ديسمبر 2013. ولديه خبره في تدريس اللغة الإنجليزية تزيد على خمس وعشرون سنة. يعمل الدكتور هشام حالياَ على كتابة عدد من الأوراق العلمية والمشاريع البحثية

Dr Hesham Suleiman Alyousef is an assistant professor at the Department of English Language and Literature, Faculty of Arts, King Saud University. He hold degrees in Applied Linguistics (PhD, University of Adelaide, Australia)/ (MA, University of King Saud) and in Languages and Translation (BA, College of Languages and Translation, Imam Mohammad bin Saud University). He published a number of papers in refereed journals and journals listed in ISI. Dr Hesham is interested in discourse analysis, multimodality, academic literacies research, metadiscourse, systemic functional linguistics (SFL), reading comprehension, syllabus design and evaluation, applied linguistics, the use of Web 2.0 technology in higher education, and translation theory. Dr Hesham worked as an MA theses examiner during his PhD candidature and as an academic editor for the Asian ESP Journal (AESPJ), February 2012 to December 2013. A seminar presented at the ASLA National Conference: Seizing the moment, Melbourne, Australia.
Abstract: With reference to research on literacy and numeracy practices of postgraduate business studies, this presentation describes a multidimensional framework for the description and analysis of multimodal academic literacies in terms of 1) the epistemologies of a number of accounting modules (the representation of accounting in formal university documents—the graduate attributes and learning outcomes, overview of the curriculum content of the
module, and the requirements of assignment tasks); 2) the participants’ experiences and explanations of working with accounting texts and tools; and 3) a Systemic Functional Multimodal Discourse Analysis (SF-MDA) of the participants’ texts to reveal the salient textual and linguistic patterns of accounting discourse. The presentation also discusses the ontological and methodological concepts underlying the qualitative, sociocultural research
approach employed. The framework mainly draws on SFL to conduct an SF-MDA of the experiential, interpersonal, and textual meanings in a number of accounting modules, including financial tables and graphs. The multi- dimensional exploration of participants’ literacy and numeracy practices provides a potential research tool not only for the SF-MDA of finance and accounting discourses but also for similar investigations across a broad range
of educational settings (Alyousef, 2013; Mickan, 2012, 2013). The presentation concludes with a discussion of the implications of the findings for future research and for instruction.
