On September 11, 2001, the World Trade Center was attacked and three weeks later, a national crisis was provoked by the intentional release of weaponized anthrax in the U.S. postal system. Dr. Noji was assigned by Secretary of Health & Human Services, Tommy Thompson to the newly established White House Office of Homeland Security located in the Executive Office of the President as an expert in response to bioterrorism.
