Emerging patterns in MOOCs: Learners, course designs and directions

Engagement with Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) at the University of Edinburgh has emerged from its strategic priorities to explore and innovate in the area of online and technologically supported approaches to teaching and learning. This paper provides an account of analysis aimed at understanding who Edinburgh MOOC learners are, who elects to participate and the aspirations of that population, and the place that the MOOC will occupy in the University’s online learning ecology.

Use of Think-aloud Protocols: investigating the Writing Habits of Saudi EFL/ESL Learners

This paper aims to investigate the writing processes of bilingual Saudi writers by means of think-aloud protocols. Think-aloud or talk-aloud protocols involve having participants verbally describe their activities while performing a given task. My goal was to understand the writing habits of Saudi EFL/ESL learners and what native Arabic speakers experience when writing in English by examining how they write compositions in English.

Consumer Health Education
 

The course examines health information, products and services, advertising, quackery and fraud, insurance and government control. Students become more informed consumers of health products and services, and will be able to assess available health information and differentiate between facts and fiction. Implications for health education will be considered.
