Petrology is a course in which geophysics students will learn briefly about origin and classification of igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks, with examples from Saudi Arabia. Students will witness and participate in demonstrations, examine hand and microscopic specimens, see computer simulations and animations, attend field trips, and sketch images drawn by the instructor.

Physical Geology is a course in which students will learn about Earth's history, minerals, rocks, plate tectonics, volcanoes, earthquakes, processes shape Earth's surface, and Earth's resources. Students will witness and participate in demonstrations, examine physical specimens, see footage of disasters, see computer simulations and animations, attend field trips, and sketch images drawn by the instructor.
