Exploring the physicochemical profile and the binding patterns of selected novel anticancer Himalayan plant derived active compounds with macromolecular targets

Plants are vital source of compounds offering plethora of therapeutic effects against various ailments without much side effects. Due to wide spread prevalence and drug resistance in cancer; there is an urgent need for discovery of new anti-cancer drugs. In the present study, selected novel anti-cancer plants derived compounds (cmpd1 to cmpd15) from Himalayan region were docked with defined molecular targets that regulate cell proliferation and apoptosis. The binding energies of best docked compounds ranged between −8.0 kcal/mol to −11.71 kcal/mol.

Binding of small molecules at interface of protein-protein complex- A newer approach to rational drug design

Protein–protein interaction is a vital process which drives many important physiological processes in the cell and has also been implicated in several diseases. Though the protein–protein interaction network is quite complex but understanding its interacting partners using both in silico as well as molecular biology techniques can provide better insights for targeting such interactions. Targeting protein–protein interaction with small molecules is a challenging task because of druggability issues.

Assessment of biological activity and UPLC-MS based chromatographic profiling of ethanolic extract of Ochradenus arabicus

Natural products from wild and medicinal plants, either in the form of crude extracts or pure compounds provide unlimited opportunities for new drug leads owing to the unmatched availability of chemical diversity. In the present study, the cytotoxic potential of crude ethanolic extract of Ochradenus arabicus was analyzed by MTT cell viability assay in MCF-7 adenocarcinoma breast cancer cells. We further investigated its effect against oxidative stress induced by anticancer drug doxorubicin.

Target fishing of glycopentalone using integrated inverse docking and reverse pharmacophore mapping approach

Glycopentalone isolated from Glycosmis pentaphylla (family Rutaceae) has cytotoxic and apoptosis inducing effects in various human cancer cell lines; however, its mode of action is not known. Therefore, target fishing of glycopentalone using a combined approach of inverse docking and reverse pharmacophore mapping approach was used to identify potential targets of glycopentalone, and gain insight into its binding modes against the selected molecular targets, viz., CDK-2, CDK-6, Topoisomerase I, Bcl-2, VEGFR-2, Telomere:G-quadruplex and Topoisomerase II.
