Molecular docking of the anticancer bioactive compound proceraside with macromolecules involved in the cell cycle and DNA replication

ABSTRACT. The bioactive compounds proceraside A, frugoside and calotropin, which were extracted from the root bark of Calotropis procera (Aiton) W.T. Aiton (family Asclepiadaceae), were recently reported to inhibit the growth of inhibition against various human cancer cell lines in vitro. However, their modes of action have not been clearly defined. Therefore, we attempted an in silico approach to gain insights into their binding modes against the following selected molecular targets: CDK-2, CDK-6, topoisomerase I, BCL-2, VEGFR-2, telomere: G-quadruplex, and topoisomerase II.

Silver nanoparticles synthesized from Adenium obesum leaf extract induced DNA damage, apoptosis and autophagy via generation of reactive oxygen species

ABSTRACT: tSilver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are an important class of nanomaterial used for a wide range of industrial andbiomedical applications. Adenium obesum is a plant of the family Apocynaceae that is rich in toxic cardiacglycosides; however, there is scarce information on the anticancer potential of its AgNPs. We hereinreport the novel biosynthesis of AgNPs using aqueous leaf extract of A. obesum (AOAgNPs). The synthesisof AOAgNPs was monitored by color change and ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy (425 nm).

Development of spermatic granuloma in albino rats following administration of water extract of Heliotropium bacciferum Forssk

A spermatic granuloma is a chronic inflammatory reaction produced in response to extravasated sperm within the intertubular connective tissue. The present study investigates the possible toxic effects of water extract of Heliotropium bacciferum on the reproductive system of male albino rats and the associated potential for the development of spermatic granulomas. H. bacciferum is a herbal plant used in traditional medicine and reported to have cytotoxic effects due to pyrrolizidine alkaloids.

Molecular Characterization of Ghrelin gene in sheep of Saudi Arabia

ABSTRACT: The main role of Ghrelin hormone is the regulation of feed intake, body weight and gastrointestinal motility. It stimulates appetite by acting on the hypothalamic arcuate nucleus. Ghrelin is orexigenic that transmits a hunger signal from the periphery to the central nervous system and is involved in mealtime hunger and meal initiation. The aim of the present study was to characterize the GHRL gene in two Saudi sheep breeds locally named as Najdi and Naeimi. A fragment of 112 bpcomprisingparts of exon 1 and intron 1 of the Ghrelin gene was amplified and sequenced.

Assessment of biological activity and UPLC–MS based chromatographic profiling of ethanolic extract of Ochradenus arabicus

Natural products from wild and medicinal plants, either in the form of crude extracts or pure compounds provide unlimited opportunities for new drug leads owing to the unmatched availability of chemical diversity. In the present study, the cytotoxic potential of crude ethanolic extract of Ochradenus arabicus was analyzed by MTT cell viability assay in MCF-7 adenocarcinoma breast cancer cells. We further investigated its effect against oxidative stress induced by anticancer drug doxorubicin.
