Improvement of cell mass production of Lactobacillus delbrueckii sp. bulgaricus WICC-B-02: A newly isolated probiotic strain from mother’s milk

Lactobacillus delbrueckii  sp. bulgaricus  WICC-B-02  is new probiotic strain which  was initially isolated from the mother’s milk.  As lactic acid bacterium, it’s known as a  highly efficient  probiotic microorganism with a wide range of benefits on the human health. This study was conducted to design and establish industrial platform for high  cell  mass  production  of  L.  delbrueckii  sp.

Mushrooms: A potential natural source of anti-inflammatory compounds for medical applications

For centuries, macrofungi have been used as food and medicine in different parts of the world. This is mainly attributed to their nutritional value as a potential source of carbohydrates, proteins, amino acids, and minerals. In addition, they also include many bioactive metabolites which make mushrooms and truffles common components in folk medicine, especially in Africa, the Middle East, China, and Japan.

Bioprocess Development for High Cell Mass and Endospore Production by Bacillus thuringiensis var israelensis in Semi-Industrial Scale

The process for high cell mass and spore production by Bacillus thuringiensis var israelensis (Bti) on semi-industrial scale was developed. Cultivations were conducted in shake flask and bioreactor levels to develop a semi-industrial scale process for the production of Bti cells and spores. The composition of the most suitable cultivation medium was further optimized to enhance biomass and spore production and also to reduce the production time.

Aeration Rate Effect on the Growth Kinetics, Phytase Production and Plasmid Stability of Recombinant Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3)

Phytase production using Escherichia coliBL21 (DE3), a recombinant strain harboring a plasmid encoding thermostable Bacillusphytase, in semi-industrial scale was studied in this work. Among the factors needed to be considered in order to achieve high enzyme yield, aeration rate plays an important role. Suitable aeration is required to supply cells with sufficient amount of air for cell and phytase production. The effect of different aeration rates, (1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 vv-1 min-1), on the kinetics of cell growth and phytase production by the recombinant E.

Evaluation of the Cytotoxic and Antiviral Activities of Partially Purified Naja haje haje Venom

Since their introduction, nucleoside analogues such as acyclovir are considered to be effective antiviral drugs against viral infections caused by herpes simplex. However, with the emergence of acyclovir-resistance, there is a growing need to develop an alternative antiherpetic drug. Within such context, snake venom could serve as a potential lead. In this study, the antiviral properties of Naja haje haje(N. haje) venom was evaluated against herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2 (HSV-1, 2) in vitro. HSV-infected Vero cells and cell-free virus suspensions were treated with N.

Au/Ag Core–Shell/Zeolite Nanocomposites with Antimicrobial Activity

This report involves the production of Au/Ag core–shell nanoparticles that were incorporated into cubic aluminum zeolite ([Al]-ZSM-5) and their test towards the microbial activity. The produced nanocomposite was characterized by X-ray diffractometry (XRD) and high transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). The formation of Au/Ag core–shell with particle size in the range of 10–13 nm has been confirmed by HRTEM. The antibacterial activities of the samples were studied for different Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.

Facile method for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles using 3-hydrazino-isatin derivatives in aqueous methanol and their antibacterial activity

Introduction:A new method for preparation of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) based on using hydrazino-isatin derivatives in an aqueous methanol reaction medium is reported here. AgNPs were prepared using silver nitrate solubilized in a water core as the source of silver ions and 3-hydrazino-isatin derivatives (3-hydrazino-isatin [IsH] and 1-benzyl-3-hydrazino-isatin [BIsH]) solubilized  in  methanol  core  as  a  reducing  agent. The  proposed  method  is  effective,  rapid, and convenient.

Optimization of tetracycline production by submerged cultivation: Effect of aeration and agitation on antibiotic production

This study was focused on the investigation of the kinetics of cell growth and oxytetracycline (OTC) production during the cultivation of Streptomyces rimosusin submerged culture in different scales using semi-defined cultivation medium. In shake flask cultures, the volumetric and specific antibiotic production, reachedafter 108 h, were 170 mg/L and 37.9 mg/g, respectively.

Production of monoclonal antibody, Anti-CD3 by hybridoma cells cultivated in basket spinner under free and immobilized conditions

Monoclonal antibodies (Mabs) have been recently used for the treatment of virtually every debilitating disease. Packed-bed bioreactors have been used for the cultivation and production of a wide range of cell lines and biologics including MAbs. The principle behind a Packed-bed bioreactor is that the cells are being immobilized within a suitable stationary matrix which is represented by the bed.
