Neurochemical, structural and neurobehavioral evidence of neuronal protection by whey proteins in diabetic albino mice

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is associated with pathological changes in the central nervous system (CNS) and alterations in oxidative stress. The aim of this study was to determine whether dietary supplement with whey protein (WP) could improve neurobehavior, oxidative stress and neuronal structure in the CNS.

METHODS:

Animals were distributed in three groups, a control group (N), a diabetic mellitus group (DM) and a DM group orally supplemented with WP (WP).

RESULTS:

Structure-Activity Relationship Studies of N- and C-Terminally Modified Secretin Analogs for the Human Secretin Receptor.

The pleiotropic role of human secretin (hSCT) validates its potential use as a therapeutic agent. Nevertheless, the structure of secretin in complex with its receptor is necessary to develop a suitable therapeutic agent. Therefore, in an effort to design a three-dimensional virtual homology model and identify a peptide agonist and/or antagonist for the human secretin receptor (hSR), the significance of the primary sequence of secretin peptides in allosteric binding and activation was elucidated using virtual docking, FRET competitive binding and assessment of the cAMP response.

Impact of carbon nanotubes on the toxicity of inorganic arsenic [AS(III) and AS(V)] to Daphnia magna: The role of certain arsenic species.

As a type of emerging nanomaterial, hydroxylated multiwalled carbon nanotubes (OH-MWCNTs) may interact with other pollutants in the aquatic environments and further influence their toxicity, transport, and fate. Thus, evaluation of toxicity to arsenic in the presence of CNTs needs to receive much more attention. The present study was conducted to explore the underlying mechanisms of OH-MWCNT-induced arsenic (As[III] and As[V]) toxicity changes in the aquatic organism Daphnia magna at different pH levels. The most toxic species for As(III) and As(V) to D.

Experiences and Attitudes of Transplant Recipients Towards Transplant Tourism

Background:
Renal transplantation is the optimal treatment for patients with end-stage renal disease. However, due to the shortage of organs supply and the increasing time on waiting lists some patients opted for commercial transplantation. In addition to its associated ethical concerns, commercial kidney transplantation is associated with higher morbidity and mortality, compared to non-commercial transplantation. The aim of this study was to assess the experience and attitudes of patients who underwent commercial kidney transplantation abroad.

MED 341

MED 341 is a course delivered by the department of Internal Medicine to students in their third year of Medical School at KSU. The course aims to give the students a primer on Medicine as it is their first clinical course. It focuses on developing skills of History taking and Physical examination. It is divided into lectures three times per week and bed side clinical sessions. Many disciplines of Internal Medicine are covered over the course. It is distributed over a full academic year.
