The International Society for Nurses in Genetics: The future of nursing practice and education in Genetics & Genomics

ISONG, the International Society of Nurses in Genetics, is a global nursing specialty organization dedicated to fostering the scientific and professional growth of nurses in human genetics and genomics worldwide. The ISONG’s vision is caring for people’s genetic and genomic health. Its mission is to foster the scientific, professional, and personal development of members in the management of genomic information. Through its membership, you can explore resources and knowledge of human genetics into your nursing practice, education and research activities.

Beyond the Hospital Door: Strengthening Health Systems Through Nurses

Over the years and across the global community, health systems have been developed to address the needs of families  and communities. Health systems consist of all organizations, individuals, and actions whose primary purpose is to promote, restore or maintain health (WHO, 2008).

Carbon nanofibers Containing Ag/TiO2 Composites as a Preliminary Stage for CDI Technology

Silver/titanium dioxide composite nanoparticles imbedded in polyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofibers and converted into carbon nanofibers by stabilization and calcination was obtained and tested for capacitive deionization technology. First, the silver ions were converted to metallic silver nanoparticles, through reduction of silver nitrate with dilute solution of PAN. Second, the TiO2 precursor (Titanium Isopropoxide) was added to the solution to form Ag/TiO2 composites im-bedded in the PAN polymer solution.

In-vitro anticancer and antimicrobial activities of PLGA/silver nanofiber composites prepared by electrospinning

In the present work, a series of 0, 1 and 7 wt% silver nano-particles (Ag NPs) incorporated poly lactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) nano-fibers were synthesized by the electrospinning process. The PLGA/Ag nano-fibers sheets were characterized using SEM, TEM and DSC analyses. The three synthesized PLGA/silver nano-fiber composites were screened for anticancer activity against liver cancer cell line using MTT and LDH assays. The anticancer activity of PLGA nano-fibers showed a remarkable improvement due to increasing the concentration of the Ag NPs.

Antibacterial effect of carbon nanofibers containing Ag nanoparticles

Silver nanoparticles imbedded in polyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofibers and converted into carbon nanofibers by calcination was obtained in a simple three-step process. The first step involves conversion of silver ions to metallic silver nanoparticles, through reduction of silver nitrate with dilute solution of PAN. The second step involves electrospinning of viscous PAN solution containing silver nanoparticles, thus obtaining PAN nanofibers containing silver nanoparticles. The third step was converting PAN/Ag composites into carbon nanofibers containing silver nanoparticles.

Erosion -Corrosion of Cermet Coating

Cermet-based coatings are being increasingly used to combat erosion-corrosion in oil and gas industries such that occurring in offshore piping, production systems and machinery involving fluid and/or slurry flowing corrosive media which often contain solid particles such as sand. This leads to material/ substrate damage caused by the combined surface degradation mechanisms of erosion and corrosion. This review assesses the erosion-corrosion resistance and performance of cermet coatings applied by different thermal spraying methods.
