Intraspecific mitochondrial variations between Rhinogobio typus from the Yellow River and Yangtze River

The complete mitochondrial genome of the first individual Rhinogobio typus collected from the
Yellow River were sequenced and compared with the previously reported complete
mitochondrial sequence of Rhinogobio typus from the Yangtze River. The length of their
circular mitochondrial genome was determined to be 16 599 and 16 608 bp respectively. The
comparison of two mitochondrial genomes revealed 237 base pair substitutions and 17
insertions or deletions (indels), including 182 base pair substitutions and 2 indels in proteincoding

Microelectrophoretic study of environmentally induced DNA damage in fish and its use for early toxicity screening of freshwater bodies

his study investigates the potential of the comet and micronucleus assays of fish DNA as a means of screening the toxicity of aquatic environments. Catla catla and Cirrhinus mrigala collected from the River Chenab in Pakistan were used as a case study for the application of comet and micronucleus techniques. Comet and micronucleus assays were used to compare DNA damage in C. catla and C. mrigala collected from polluted areas of the River Chenab and farmed fish. Atomic absorption spectrophotometry showed an acute level of toxicity from Cd, Cu, Mn, Zn, Pb, Cr, Sn, and Hg in river water.

Mapping quantitative trait loci and identifying candidate genes affecting feed conversion ratio based onto two linkage maps in common carp (Cyprinus carpio L)

Feed efficiency is an economically important trait in aquaculture, which can be measured traditionally as feed
conversion ratio (FCR). Because of the difficult measurement, genome-wide selection using quantitative trait
loci (QTLs) affecting FCR may be an alternative for genetic improvement. In the present investigation, QTLs for
FCR based on two mapping panels (mirror carp and hybrid carp panels) were found in common carp (Cyprinus
carpio L.). After that, candidate genes were identified by comparative genomics. A total of nine QTLs, two genome-
