Cerastes cerastes gasperettii venom Induced Hematological Alterations and Oxidative Stress in Male Mice

The desert horned vipers (Cerastes cerastes gasperettii; C. c. gasperettii) are

the most familiar snakes of the great deserts of North Africa and the Middle East, including

the Saudi Arabia. They are responsible for many human snake bites. The current study

was designed to investigate the hematological effects and oxidative stress induction in

lung, heart and spleen after C. c. gasperettii envenomation. Thirty six male Swiss albino

mice were randomly divided into 2 groups, Control group injected intrapretoneally (i.p.)

Ultrastructural differentiation of sperm tail region in Diplometopon zarudnyi (an amphisbaenian reptile)

Diplometopon zarudnyi, a worm lizard belongs to amphisbaenia under trogonophidae

family. This species exists in limited areas of the Arabian Peninsula and is an oscillating digger

found in sub-surface soils. The present study aimed to investigate the sperm tail differentiation

in D. zarudnyi. Ten male adults of D. zarudnyi were collected from Riyadh during April–May

2011. To study the sperm tail at the ultrastructural level the testes were fixed in 3% glutaraldehyde,

Frequency analysis of short periodic Cepheid BD+13 218 as Seen from SMEI Observations

A total of 1848 flux observations of BD+13 218 are obtained by using the Solar Mass Ejection Imager (SMEI) on board of the Coriolis satellite. The data reveal a significant cycle-to-cycle fluctuation in the pulsation period, indicating that classical Cepheid may not be accurate regardless of the specific points used to determine the O-C values. Eddington & Plakidis (1929) methods and random fluctuations in periods were studied. The present detailed O-C residuals for pulsating star BD+13 218 (P=2.8364 day) is studied. Pulsation frequencies and Fourier spectra are presented.

Impact of tributyltin on antioxidant and DNA damage response in spermatozoa of freshwater prawn Macrobrachium rosenbergii

Effects of tributyltin (TBT) on antioxidant [total

superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx),

and glutathione reductase (GR)] and DNA damage levels in

the spermatozoa were studied and reported here for the first

time in the freshwater prawn Macrobrachium rosenbergii.

Three groups of (n=10 in each group) fishes were exposed

to three different nominal concentrations of TBT viz., 1, 2, and

4 mg L−1 along with control group for 90 days. Significant

decrease of antioxidant and increased DNA damage levels

Impact of different feeds on growth, survival and feed conversion instripped snakehead Channa striatus (Bloch 1793) larvae

Growth, survival and feed conversion ratio of striped snakehead (Channa striatus) larvae fed on different feeds during nursery rearing were evaluated. Three different experiments were conducted using hatchlings, fry and fingerlings of C. striatus with three replicates per treatment. Growth performance of snakehead hatchlings was examined by feeding them with the following diets: Diet 1 - copepod, Thermocyclops decipiens; Diet 2 - cladoceran, Ceriodaphnia cornuta and Diet 3 - T. decipiens and C.

Spectral behavior of Nova GQ Mus in the ultraviolet

We present ultraviolet spectroscopic study of nova GQ Mus observed with the International Ultraviolet Explorer (IUE) during the period 1983-1985. Different spectra showing the changes in line fluxes at different times are presented. The outflow velocity of the ionized ejecta was calculated to be 1010-2900 km s^{-1} (FWHM). We estimated a new value of the reddening from the 2200 Å absorption feature, E(B-V) = 0.16 ± 0.02. The models generated by Jose and Hernanz (1998) indicate that GQ Mus is a CO5/CO6 nova with WD mass of {˜} 1.15 M_{⊙}.

Reproductive biology of the horned viper, Cerastes cerastes gasperettii in the central region of Saudi Arabia

The reproductive biology of the horned viper, Cerastes cerastes gasperettii, in Riyadh

region of Saudi Arabia was investigated over a period of one year. Study of reproductive cycle

of male and female C. c. gasperettii revealed that the breeding season is relatively short (April

and May). Thereafter females laid eggs by mid of July and hatching probably had taken place

by the end of September. No activity was observed during winter, this may indicate just a single

Epidemiological estimates of Respiratory diseases in the hospital population, Faisalabad, Pakistan.

A cross sectional study was conducted in two types of respiratory patients in hospital population. It was found that tuberculosis (T.B) was the most common type (29.66%) followed by the asthma (28.08%) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) (11.31%). Average age of diagnosis was 42.15 ± 0.65 years and average age at present 47.99 ± 0.70 years. Age group 51-60 years was more prone to this disease (21.13%). Most of the patients were married (80.06%).
