This course is designed to provide the students with the concepts and theories related to the clinical practice of the dental hygienists.
The practical portion will introduce the students to the clinical setting at KSU. It is designed to guide the students in a step-by-step concept in the process of care provided by the dental hygienist, from the assessment phase to diagnosis, treatment planning, implementation, evaluation and documentation practicing on peer patients. Upon completion, students should have the required skills and knowledge to treat at least three patients.
This course introduces preoperative clinical dental hygiene concepts. Emphasis is placed on the theory of basic dental hygiene instrumentation.
The practical part of this course provides the students the opportunity to perform clinical dental hygiene procedures discussed in theory. Emphasis is placed on instrumentation techniques.
Pre-clinic labs enhances students’ manual instrumentation and dexterity skills prior to proceeding to patient treatment in clinic I
This course introduces students to the dental hygiene specialty, preoperative and preclinical dental hygiene concepts. Emphasis is placed on the duties and job description of the dental hygienists, introduction to the various tooth deposits and caries, as well as the theory of basic dental hygiene instruments. Upon completion, students should be familiar with the concept of dental hygiene, demonstrate knowledge of dental hygiene instruments, and will be ready to enter preclinical course.
