صمم محتوى المقرر لهذه الشعبة لأن يكون مقررا تعريفيا لطلاب علوم الحاسب والمعلومات عن علم بحوث العمليات، يقدم المقرر نبذة تاريخية عن بحوث العمليات وبعض النماذج الأساسية في بحوث العمليات ، يغطي  المقرر بشكل مختصر : عناصر بناء النماذج في بحوث العلمليات ، و حل البرامج الخطية البسيطة بيانيا وجبريا ، و حل مشاكل النقل والتخصيص ، و بعض مشاكل الشبكات كمشكلة الشجرة الممتدة وأقصر مسار بالإضافة إلى طرق اتخاذ القرارات في حالة المخاطرة وحالة عدم التأكد ، و أخيرا النظام الصفي البسيط.
