A lecture and laboratory course designed to orient the student to clinical dental hygiene practice including oral examinations, charting, taking medical and dental histories, aseptic procedures, positioning techniques, instrumentation scaling methods and initial practice in prophylaxis techniques.

This course covers two disorders: 1) cleft lip/palate and other craniofacial anomalies; and 2) cerebral palsy. The first part discusses the physical problems, symptoms, etiology, classification and nature of communication problems and other issues related to life quality in children with craniofacial anomalies―specifically cleft lip and palate―and cerebral palsy.
