COURSE DESCRIPTION 

(6 hours)

This course consists of two main components, the principles of cavity preparations for the currently available restoratives, their physical and manipulative characteristics and cavity restoration. They are provided by the RDS Department during the two semesters of the second year of the RDS program. It is a 1 + 2 + 0, equivalent to 3 credit hours course for first semester plus 1 + 2 + 0 for second semester, or a total of 6 credit hours course.

COURSE DESCRIPTION FOR ORTHOPTICS (OPTO 493 – 1 + 1  =  2)

This course is the last of a three course series that deals with binocular vision. The aim is to teach the student how to manage binocular problems emanating from visual and oculomotor inefficiency. Emphasis will be placed on the treatment of strabismus, amblyopia and suppression. The management of convergence, divergence and vergence range problems will also be covered as well as those with saccades, pursuits and eye-hand coordination.

COURSE DESCRIPTION FOR CLINICAL METHODS III (OPTO 314– 1+2  =  3)

In this third course of the series, the student will be introduced to additional refraction techniques including monocular subjective refraction, the use of the JCC (Jackson Cross Cylinder), accommodative and convergence amplitude measurements, phorias, vergences, fixation disparity and the determination of the lens addition for near work in presbyopia.
