This is the first clinical operative course that builds on the preceding principles and techniques already presented in the pre-clinical courses while expanding the area of diagnosis and treatment planning. Attention is given to efficient utilization of the clinical facilities and the need for proper patient records. Students are expected to carry out simple restorative procedures under close staff supervision. This course is offered in the 3rd year as one lecture and one clinical session in the first half and one clinical in the second half of the year.

This course is given in the fourth year in two semesters as the final operative course. In the first semester there will be one lecture and one clinical session and in the second semester there will be one clinical session

CLS 331 Clinical Biochemistry II (3+1=4)

 
Course work involves a study of the metabolic activity of animal tissue and its regulation. Major catabolic pathways related to carbohydrate, amino acid, and fatty acids are discussed in detail. The study includes a look at the bio-energetic of cells as well as the digestion and absorption of food material.

يهتم هذا المقرر بوصف لعمليات الإيض الخلوية الخاصة بأكسدة كل من السكاكر والأحماض الأمينية والأحماض الدهنية وطرق استخراج الطاقة الكيميائية منها وتخزينها كما يشمل دراسة عن دور الهرمونات المنظمة لعمليات الإيض وكذلك العيوب الخلقية المتسببة عن نقص انزيمات الأيض ويشمل المقرر ايضا على وصف لعملية الهضم وامتصاص المواد الغذاذية.

CLS 544 Specialised Medical Haematology II (1+1=2)

 
This course will cover the basic molecular abnormalities of inheritance and the normal and abnormal structures and functions of variant haemoglobins specifically sickle cell diseases, the thalassaemias, and other haemoglobinopathies. Abnormalities of red cell enzymes, specifically G6PD enzyme and pyruvate kinase enzyme deficiencies will be high lighted. Mention will be made of Hexokinases and Glutathione reductase enzymes. Emphasis will also be laid on diagnostic criteria including the basic haematological diagnosis and more specific and more modern diagnostic tests including Haemogglobin Electrophoresis, Haemoglobin peptide digestion and chain analysis, Haplotype determination, and enzyme electrophoresis and assay.

يختص هذا المقرر بدراسة التغيرات الجزئية الأساسية غير الطبيعية الخاصة بالوراثة ، ووظائف الهيموجلينات المستخلفة وبالذات أمراض فقر الدم وأمراض الهيموجلوبين الأخرى ، والتغيرات غير الطبيعية في أنزيمات خلايا الدم الحمراء . وسوف يتم التركيز على إيضاح الصفات التشخيصية ، والطرق المتخصصة والمتقدمة أو الحديثة لتشخيص أمراض الدم ، وتشمل طرق الفصل الكهربائي للهيموجلوبين وطرق هضم بيتيرات الهيموجلوبين والتحليل المتسلسل وطرق الفصل الكهربائي للأنزيمات وتقويمها . 

CLS 333 Clinical Biochemistry III (3+1)

 
This course will prepare the students in knowing the principles of laboratory tests performed in routine and special chemistry laboratory. A comprehensive understanding of the concepts will be developed along with required component of physiological chemistry, biochemical principles of the tests performed, clinical significance and interpretation of the data against the normal values on the test performed in a manual/automated setting.

يعنى هذا المقرر بدراسة تفصيلية عن طرق القياس الأساسية المستخدمة في المختبرات والخاصة بكل من المواد السكرية والأحماض الأمينية والبروتينات والمواد الدهنية وطرق تعيينها في الدم وفي الأمراض المصاحبة كذلك يشمل المقرر على دراسة لوظائف الكبد والكلى والطرق المخبرية لتقييم كفاءة كل منها بالإضافة إلى دراسة لغازات الدم والجهاز الهضمي والغدد الصماء والأمراض المصاحبة . 

CLS 431 Clinical Enzymology (1+1)

  This course deals with the study of theoretical and practical aspects of chemical structures and actions of various enzymes, their assay methods, and clinical applications in the diagnosis of diseases related to disorders of liver, kidneys, intestines, pancreas, bones or muscles including heart-muscle.

يعنى هذا المقرر بوصف تفصيلي لآلية عمل الأنزيمات المختلفة وطرق تحليلها في المختبر ، كما يتضمن دراسة تحليلية لمستويات هذه الأنزيمات في الدم من أجل التعرف على الأمراض ذاتالعلاقة بعمل كل من الكبد والكلى والأمعاء والبنكرياس والعظام والعضلات بما فيها عضلة القلب
