A comparative toxic effect of Cedrus deodara oil on larval protein contents and its behavioral effect on larvae of mealworm beetle (Tenebrio molitor) (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae)

Cedrus deodara (deodar) is practically used, as insect repellent, in the northern areas of Pakistan but no data available therefore this study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of deodar oil as an alternate of conventional insecticides against the larval pest stage of mealworm beetle (Tenebrio molitor), by feeding method. The aim of the study was to investigate the effectiveness of deodar oil as an alternate of conventional insecticides against the larval pest stage of mealworm beetle (Tenebrio molitor), by feeding method.

In vitro activity of some natural honeys against Entamoeba histolytica and Giardia lamblia trophozoites

Considering the potentiality of honey in combating diseases, the present study was carried out aiming to assess the in vitro antiprotozoal activity of several honeys (Ziziphus spina-christiAcacia nilotica, Acacia seyal, and Cucurbita maxima) against Entamoeba histolytica and Giardia lamblia by employing the sub-culture method.

Comparison of physicochemical properties and effects of heating regimes on stored Apis mellifera and Apis florea honey

Many of the components, which render honey its specific aroma, flavor, and biological activity, are unstable over time and thermolabile. This study was aimed to compare the chemical composition, effect of heating as well as the time of heat exposure, and storage period on the quality of honey samples from Apis mellifera (A.m.) and Apis florea (A.f.). Methods of the Association of the Official Analytical Chemists (AOAC) were used in this study. The mean values for both A.m. and A.f.

Characterization of gut bacterial flora of Apis mellifera from north-west Pakistan

Gut microbiota has been recognized to play a beneficial role in honey bees (Apis mellifera). Present study was designed to characterize the gut bacterial flora of honey bees in north-west Pakistan. Total 150 aerobic and facultative anaerobic bacteria from guts of 45 worker bees were characterized using biochemical assays and 16S rDNA sequencing followed by bioinformatics analysis. The gut isolates were classified into three bacterial phyla of Firmicutes (60%), Proteobacteria (26%) and Actinobacteria (14%).

Seasonal population dynamics of dusky cotton bug (Oxycarenus spp.) in transgenic cotton varieties under field conditions

Dusky cotton bug (Oxycarenus spp.) has become a major insect pest for cotton crop in Pakistan. Transgenic cotton varieties provided resistance to a variety of insects pests. But, these are not safe for this emerging potential threat. In present study, nine transgenic cotton varieties (IUB-222, MNH-886, FH-142, CIM-599, A-555, CIM-602, NIAB-777, MNH-786 and Bt-666) were assessed for seasonal population dynamics of dusky cotton bug (DCB) under field conditions.
