Training:

  • Currently enrolled in the Psychiatry Residency training program at the University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada.
  • A half day per week elective in developmental disorders at Surrey Place Center, Toronto (March 2017-June 2017) with Dr. Vikram Dua
  • Training in Psychosomatic medicine for 6 months (October 2013- March 2014) as part of Residency training at King Khalid University Hospital, Under the Saudi commission of Health specialties.
  • Junior faculty member at the Department of Psychiatry, King Khalid University Hospital in Riyadh, which is the major training center for the Saudi Psychiatry board in Saudi Arabia (started Aug 2010).
  • Child and adolescent psychiatry training from April 2011 till April 2012, in addition to general psychiatry training during on-calls and department teaching activities.
  • Observership at The Center for Addiction and Mental Health, University of Toronto-Canada, for 6 weeks starting November 1/ 2010.
  • Internship year, where I spent 12 months rotating in different specialties, including: Pediatrics, Internal medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and gynecology, Emergency medicine and 2 elective months in Psychiatry.
  • Medical elective in cardiology for a month at King's College-London-summer 2008.
  • Psychiatry elective for 2 weeks in King Khalid University Hospital-Riyadh-summer 2008.

Leadership positions:

  • Elected as the first ever female chief intern at the College of medicine-King Saud University, leading 60 male and female intern colleagues (2009-2010).
  • Leader of the training committee of the organ donation awareness Campaign (2008-2009).
  • Elected as the female class representative for 3 consecutive years during my third (2006-2007), fourth (2007-2008) and fifth (2008-2009) years as a medical student.
  • Sub-group leader in my second year of medical school (2005-2006).

Research projects:

  • Prevalence of Social anxiety disorder in the visually impaired versus the controls.
  • Autism spectrum disorders: identification of culprit genes through phenomics, genomics and bioinformatics, in collaboration with University of Toronto.
  • Identifying genes for positive traits in bipolar disorder, in collaboration with University of California.
  • Structured Clinical Interview for DMS-IV disorders (SCID) modified for Saudi National Mental Health survey, which is part of the World Mental Health initiative under the WHO, as an interviewer and supervisor.
  • Questionnaire formulation and data collection in a research studying the relationship between parents and their children and the different factors affecting it.
  • Data collection phase of the Epidemiologic study of tobacco use among undergraduate students at King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (2008/2009).

Health, Community and organizational services:

  • Quality Improvement project- Improving length of stay at St. Michael’s Hospital inpatient psychiatry unit (July 2016 – May 2017).

  • Activities of our holy celebrating days, where we went to patients in different Hospitals and celebrated with them. 
  • Organized activity programs with my colleagues for raising charity money during my second year of medical school (2005-2006).

Honors:

  • Ranked 20th among 100 female medical students in 2009 with a GPA of 4.17/5.
  • Elected as one of the top 5 ideal students among 100 female medical students (2009).
  • Received an honor award in physiology during my second year of medicine (2005-2006).
  • Received an honor award in histology and physiology during my first year of medicine (2004-2005).
  • Received an honor award in my last year in high school for being the top student in my class.

Appreciation tokens:

  • An article was written about my leadership skills by my colleagues, in our student-based weekly newsletter, ‘The Weekly Med’ (2009).
  • Three appreciation tokens from my colleagues, one as a sub-group leader and the others as the class representative.
