Who Is an Orthoptist

Orthoptists are uniquely skilled in diagnostic techniques and none surgical treatments.  They are involved in the diagnosis and treatment of sight-related problems, particularly those connected with abnormalities of eye movement and eye position such as strabismus and \ or amblyopia.

Patients with such disorders do not have proper binocular vision; that is, their eyes do not work together as they should.
Using diagnostic instruments and procedures, orthoptists determine appropriate treatments, which often include exercising eye muscles or temporarily covering one eye with a patch so the other eye works more effectively. They are also traind  to provide those type of patients with pre - and post surgical care if nedded 
 Orthoptists serve patients of all ages, but because of the nature of many binocular disorders, the majority of patients are children
