Quality of life in tertiary healthcare services: lessons from the Saudi Arabian accreditation system

The aim of this study was to measure Quality of Life (QoL) among Saudi patients attending accredited and non-accredited hospitals (ACCHs, NACCHs respectively). Health studies that deal with health policies outcomes especially health accreditation is rare. Employing WHOQOL-Bref tool to measure health outcomes, this study explores the impact of health accreditation in Saudi Arabia (SA) on patients’ physical, mental, social, and environmental well-being. the result indicated a high level of QoL among the participants. However, patients attending NACCHs were more likely to experience QoL, in some health domains, than their counterparts attending ACCHs. The study has suggested a further investigation for particular medical episodes in tertiary care services employing specific Key Performance Indicators in align with CBAHI standards.
