Course Overview (2+1):
This course assists students to review and critique concepts and processes relating to leading change. The course provides students with an opportunity to construct a proposal related to a planned change process they wish to lead in their work context.
This is a mandatory course in the Master of Applied Management (Nursing). This course will provide the students with the opportunity to design and develop a learning contract or clinical guidelines relevant to their specialty area of practice.
COURSE OUTCOMES
1. Demonstrate a sound understanding of a selected area of advanced practice based on an examination of a clinical issue or practice concern;
2. Use conceptual frameworks that are relevant to advanced practice
3. Provide a clear and scholarly presentation commensurate with postgraduate level studies
COURSE OBJECTIVES
1. To adopt a people approach to leadership of change;
2. To enable critical review of change theories, models and processes;
3. To reflect on differences in scale and scope of change at the level of organizations, unit/teams and the individual, and the need for congruence between the goals of change at each of these levels,
4. To critically analyze the roles and function of leaders, change agents and stakeholders in the context of change;
5. To reflect on and discuss the role of organizational/unit culture and motivation in situations of change;
6. To consider barriers and reactions to change;
7. To provide an opportunity for each student to identify and critically analyse, address and evaluate a change process;
8. To discuss methods of disseminating the outcomes of a change process.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS
- All examinations will be based upon the principle concepts and theory presented in the module objectives and all objectives outlined at the beginning of each lecture in the text. Examinations will cover class lectures and assigned reading.
- It is expected that students will write examinations at scheduled times. Special arrangements may be made for rescheduling by contacting the instructor prior to the examination. This privilege will be granted for unusual circumstances only.
