MIS 354: Enterprise Resource Planning

This course introduces the ERP functionalities and capabilities in contrast to the unintegrated information systems. It defines the business functional areas, processes, ERP development history, and enabling technologies. In addition, it discusses the pros and cons of implementing an ERP system and the benefits of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software, Supply Chain Management (SCM) systems, and accounting and management-reporting as useful extensions of ERP software.

The purpose of this course is to provide the students with a clear understanding of the fundamental concepts of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). The problems of unintegrated systems in modern businesses are presented and the main rules of ERP in solving these problems and running enterprises are discussed. The ERP strategic, tactical, and operational influences on businesses are emphasized.
The course syllabus is revised annually. In the last revision, the course content has changed from using SAP ERP system to focus more on the concepts and foundations of the ERP systems in general. A group project at the end of the semester is intended to give the students the chance to select and practice on any specific ERP system.
