IE 337 Industrial Automation Course (BSc Course)

Factory automation mainly covers; Machine level automation, Production line or work cell automation, Shop floor automation, and Plant level automation. The course focus on the 1st level of factory automation e.g. machine automation level. Furthermore, provides an introduction and application of programmable logic controller (PLC) in automating the manufacturing processes. Also, focuses on the applications of PLC in sequential and logic automations and introduce to different types of logic sensors/actuators. The course is suitable for undergraduate engineering students as well as practicing engineers. Chapter 1, provides and identifies types of factory automations. Introduction to programmable logic controller PLC given in Chapter 2. Computer numbering systems is given in Chapter 3. Chapter 4, will provide the fundamental of computer logic and Boolean Algebra. Electric logic sensors and actuators are given in Chapter 5, while Chapter 6 provides pneumatic logic sensors and actuators. Relay ladder logic RLL design for sequencing system is demonstrated in Chapter 7. Chapter 8, provides the PLC timer, counter functions and illustrates how to work with PLC registers and analog input/output signals. Finally, illustrated industrial automation applications using PLC are given in Chapter 9.
