Course description:
This course provides an introduction of antibiotics as secondary metabolites and their chemical structures, properties, and mechanisms of action. It also covers the classification of antibiotics, usage, isolation and purification, characterization, structural and functional properties, mode of action and resistance from a chemical and biochemical point of view.
Course main aim:
This course aims to deliver a fundamental understanding of the biology and chemistry of antibiotics. It provides an insight into industrial and clinical aspects of antibiotics as well as the mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance.
