Enterprise Web 2.0 in a consulting firm - P 2
According to W11 the compatibility of web 2.0 with the work process is easy and should not have an influence of employees’ adoption and engagement with web 2.0, whoever it is clear from the previous paragraph that was not the case with wiki adoption. I think the reasons is that they did not what to use for in the first place and then management did not show interest in it, so no one has used it and IT staff did not maintain it until it break down and this is how it died. I think if consultants figured out how to use it and a wiki champion communicates its usefulness to the management, the wiki would be more successful. Maybe consultants didn’t want wiki to success and used as KM platform because it is perceived as overhead and they are busy with the consultancy work.
With regard to yammer it used more comparing with wiki and Google docs. Around 30 employees are active on yammer and the big majority of them are consultants. It is interesting that only one or two admin staffs are active in yammer while the organisational rational behind introducing yammer was to keep and maintain the relationship between X11 and its staff. Maintaining this relationship is through linking consultants with each other to have friendly KS environment for help, advice and Knowledge seekers; and linking consultants with each other and admin staff to keep and enhance consultants’ loyalty to X11. However, yammer has started to be used more for social reasons as a virtual tea room. This usage luckily was ok from management point of view as using yammer in this way help consultants to not feel isolated from their DSW and their loyalty get affected especially they spend most of the time in clients sites. But also, at the same time management were not engaged with the consultants may be because of the level of information they could put there is not ok for consultants to be exposed to as W11 said but also I think because managers fear from opening a direct and bi-communication channel with 500 consultants because consultants is so close to the management in the organisational structure. If management (and they could be the mid tier managers like HR, Business development and Operation) were engaged the adoption of this tool would be more successful.
