Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course students should be able to: 

  1. Produce grammatically and structurally correct English translation of various new Arabic texts of different types
  2. Communicate the connotative meaning of the original text as well as its pragmatic effect.
  3. Differentiate between the subliminal or habitual processes of translation and the conscious and analytical procedures a translator uses when the former type fails.
  4. Learning how to deal with potential translation problems.

 
Communication Skills
 
The continuing development of good inter-personal communication skills is widely recognised as important for all students. This course specifically seeks to develop students’ abilities to work in groups and make a presentation.
 
Graduate Attributes of Translation II
 

  1. Knowledge
  • An understanding of the underlying differences between the semantic and

     linguistic elements of English and Arabic.

  • Translating from Arabic into proper English (form and structure).

 

  1. Skills
  • Students will be able to thoroughly practice translating from Arabic into English, thus opportunity to practice writing as well as applying required skills.
  • They will be able to apply information from previous courses to differentiate between English and Arabic structures.
  • They will also be able to differentiate between subliminal or habitual processes of translation and the conscious and analytical procedures a translator uses when the former type fails, thereby gradually moving to subliminal translation.
  • Students will learn how to deal with potential translation problems.
